Timpany lovers and bad Cary Grant impersonators everywhere will be pleased with Captain Scarlet's return to Canadian TV on BBC Kids. As a recap:
It is the year 2068 and, following what they mistakenly believe to be an attack on their Martian city, the Mysterons declare war on mankind. In the battles that follow, Captain Scarlet is killed-- but can mysteriously regenerate himself! In addition to still being freaked out by the freaky premise, I am also amazed by the level of casual world-government-controlled violence against civic infrastructure that is part of the show - Spectrum's jet planes taking out overpasses to stop a car, enemy helicopters being smashed into 800 foot public towers sending them toppling into residential areas, camper trailers sitting feet from gas station pumps exploding to reveal the Spectrum Pursuit Vehicle hiding within. Who is cleaning up after these guys? Halliburton contractors?
I've just checked the schedule and it is a one-time Scarlet-a-thon from 9 pm tonight to 6 am tomorrow morning. I guess that is for the 12 weenies who do not work tomorrow, watched the show 35 years ago and have a subscription to BBC Kids. How odd.
