Given the collapse of NHL/NHLPA talks on uncancelling the cancelled season this afternoon, we have to move on. We have to show the NHL that we don't need their stinking hockey and show that we know our own hockey. Since 1997 when it began on a Kings College '80's alumni Idle Crows email loop, I have operated [with the help of computer wizards more wizardly than I am] an internet NHL playoffs hockey pool in the spring and by jumbo I am going to do a pool of some sort again this year. But what rules? I think we have to pick the winners of the Memorial Cup, the World Hockey Championship, Swiss League, Swedish league, the NCAA tourney...that sort of thing. As these competitions would exist otherwise, this is not a scab picket-crossing sort of pool but it will take a bit of research and edjification so any ideas?

we could guess your weight.

I always liked the idea of guessing the number of jelly beans in a jar. Why don't we guess Alan's weight after he's eaten the jar of jelly beans?

Ha ha ha. So funny you are.

I recommend a Memorial cup pool. You get good cross Canada (+ northern U.S.) involvement and given the circumstances, something which doesn't involve professional players seems appropriate.
Of course I'm currently in last place in my substitute OHL for NHL regular season pool, so I'm not sure why I'm recommending this, but oh well.

We like Byzantine pool structures around here but the Memorial could definitely be a part of it.

Well I'm glad hockey is back up and running for this year! I have lost interest the last number of years, but for some reason I am really keen to see it going again. I hope Sidney Crosby does well!
Speaking of hockey pools I recently developed a nice new online free hockey pool manager so you guys don't need to use spreadsheets anymore!

Doesn't that take all the moronic debates over addition skills out of it?

I'm assuming the sudden deluge of McLeods posting means the rest of your family has discovered your blog?

You philistine! Note clearly the "Mac" in Justin's name. Vaaaaaaaaaaaaast difference.
I kid. While we are all of the clan, that clan has about 4 million members. I expect that the notice went out on MacLeodNet Central that all should be reading but I have actually noticed a sad lack of MacLeods and McLeods hereabouts. The Masons are slacking off, too.

Whoops! :-) I suppose I'll be looking for a bloody big poleaxe in back someday then?

I suspect most bog pirates couldn't afford one of those ...
