I love a museum where you can take the kids and throw a rock or splash or take a hike as part of the experience. Nice to see, then, that this coming July coming will see the opening of the Natural History Museum of the Adirondacks in Tupper Lake, NY.
This places it on the first afternoon of a over-nighter into the big park east-south-east (as opposed to the big park north) just this side of the delights of Saranac Lake. It also is enroute if a more northerly run to the coast of Maine is made for stouts and smoked chowder, taking you though Middlesbury or even Rutland Vermont and Concord NH.
