Will it matter? I have no idea - but this is up there with the all time accusations that I can recall:
“You’re looking for an enemy to explain why you lost [the Parliament Hill] contract and why you’re losing your company,” said Conservative MP Chris Warkentin. Mr. Sauvé did not back down, asserting that when his company was bidding for a contract to work on the restoration of the Parliament Buildings, he believed that, to have any chance of success, he had to pay a commission of 3 per cent of the value of the Parliament Hill contract to Gilles Varin, a Montreal businessman and Conservative supporter.
It's funny how we have few sex scandals in Canada - and nothing like the GOP caught in the airport bathroom stuff. What kind of scandals and allegations do we have? Bite sized packets of cash. The spoons sized mini-wheats of corruption. No gangs with machine guns on street corners backing the local thug. No building a bridge to nowhere. Just little stacks of twenties and fifties that ensure a small circle with a few holidays and clinky-drinky meals. Presbyterians gone wild.
