That whole scene was pretty awesome -- the gold medalist being handed a pitcher of beer by a random citizen, and then marching with it down to his big interview...
Someone needs to put it up on Youtube, set to patriotic music.

How come the IOC isn't all over his ass, for being "unbecoming" ?? Radical theory suggests that women smoking cigars and drinking beer just gave the older set the vapours.

The IOC isn't all over his ass because he'd take his free hand -- i.e., the one not holding the pitcher -- pick up the offending bureaucrat by his neck, and shake him for a while.
On the other hand, the IOC did treat Jim Thorpe like a piece of trash for decades...
