Being Canadian is sometimes like being on a committee no one notices, often for good reason. We read of this phenomena this very morning:
The U of T team determined the problem, then figured out the delicate manoeuvres needed to bring the astronauts back to Earth safely. Forty years later, the Canadian Air and Space Museum is making sure the critical contribution made by the team at the University of Toronto does not slip by unnoticed. Several team members will be at the museum near Toronto on Tuesday to receive the Pioneer award to highlight their role in the Apollo 13 rescue.
You will forget tomorrow about this anniversary, won't you. Would it be any less important if the researchers included a South Dakotan or an Aussie? Maybe they did. They could have been all auslanders. All it says is that the call was placed to Toronto, not that the scientists were Torontonians. How many letters passed between the Museum and university on this matter? File under "its a little known fact - they were Canadian... or at least in Canada."
