I am toying with the idea of the previously impossible - voting Grit or Tory this year. I am sick of the Federal roadblock. At least today. Because it is Monday I suppose. But Jack may have other ideas. He may yet keep me from the ballot box:
"We haven't seen any details, but there is no question that the people in this recession who are really struggling the most ... are those who lost their jobs," Mr. Layton told CTV's Question Period. "And we think Parliament should be working for this sort of thing - working for people and not just partisan interests." Mr. Layton said it would require some "outreach" by Mr. Harper to persuade New Democrats that he is prepared to bring a more conciliatory approach to governing with a minority. "Do these rumours [of EI changes] amount to that? I think it is too early to say."
Would you thank Jack for leading his left-wing socialists to back the right-wing socialists of Canada's conservative movement? At first instance, it does paint a silly picture given all the frothing at the mouth of minions about the sins of teaming up with socialists. Especially given by any reasonable standard that this is pretty much a socialist nation being led, even now, by socialists. Tax dollars for rec room fix ups paid for my Tories? Who would have though of such a thing? But this is the decade of expediency, a time of other values than those in the hand-outs. Jack may yet find a way to keep it going.

I wouldn't, but that's because I WANT AN ELECTION!
Let's have annual elections, I say. (Till someone gets a majority, anyway.)
I like elections.

That's not a bad idea, Ben: Keep voting until we get it right, I mean, correct!

Well, given our political history, that's probably till when the Liberal Party gets its act together enough to cobble together a majority of the seats again.
(I hate the Grits, but I know their role...)

When it comes to the election that is impending, I feel like I do when my wife makes me go to Arby's for lunch... I kind of like bits and pieces of what I see on the menu, but there is no "meal deal" I want really, and none of them are all that healthy.

Oh, but it tastes so, so good, even if it'll give you a heart attack at age 55.

Mega-extra bonus points for "right-wing socialists".

Smilin' Jack is going to keep the good ship Harper afloat. Mores the pity.
I'm with Ben on elections: vote early, vote often.

I also loved the "right-wing socialists" phrase -- reminded me of the dedication of The Road to Serfdom...
I may have to revise what I just said, given this.
Maybe Boss Harp can get his majority after all?

I dunno. If the Liberals have enough to actually run the ads for months and they remain above the gutter, the Tories will have to shift their ways and, when you think about it, they aren't real good above the gutter.

True, true.
Still think that Harper has something of the Mackenzie King about him -- unloved, unlovable, but with staying power.
If Iggy beats him next time out, watch to see if he sticks around. I think he just might.
