A little clarity about our common purpose would be particularly welcome these days. The government has pretty well abandoned the field as far as communicating about the Afghan mission. Small wonder people are looking around and wondering why we're still there, or why we have said nothing about the atrocious Shia Personal Status Law.

"Good government postering" first requires good government posturing.
Where has the courage in postering gone? Blame political correctness. Small special interest groups spring up every time there is a statement of policy or position. Anxious political bodies rush to avoid offending, and the whole position process crumbles.
Courage is the key word in the example above.
