It's colder. All of a sudden the snap in the air remands a fleece pull over for the walk to work. I even wore gloves the other night after committee. Of course, it is the way it should be but, really, its not the way I want it. Who loves October? There are still a few tomatoes on the sparse ugly vines we potted late and then ignored though the dry spells. The winds whip the tree out front, the tree starting it dead spiral. Whole brittle branches are poised to crash down upon the sidewalk.
- So if people are not employed but self-employed and not paid into the system for years... why will they get EI benefits but immigrant grannies can't get a cup of tea after three years of contributing to the Canadian economy? Will the CPC plan for EI require the self-employed to pay into the plan for a few years before the maternity benefits trigger?
- The Sox finally win.
- I didn't know that John Brown was from near here. I was upstate yesterday.which requires a drive north-east, south and then south-west. Wore a tie and everything. Learned about the Battle of Plattsburg. Good Cheddar costs half what it does here. Got a football tee, too. A good one this time.
- Ugly Canadian anti-Americanism: "Americans are stupid, obviously." Why this time? This is why.
- So Letterman's staff are there to satisfy his sexual needs and then to conspire criminally against him. Maybe this is why I watch Leno. I just hope Paul Shaffer is in the clear on all counts.
They day is now upon you. Do something good for a change, would you? Just because it's Friday doesn't mean you all have to slack off.

Isn't that just Bay Area self-hating-Americanism? I know it well -- that's where my American family is from. Was out there last during the 2008 RNC, and seeing how my cousins felt about things...
(Mind you, that can have just as strong an impact...)
It isn't _all_ Canadians' fault. :p Americans can hate themselves just fine.

Relaying it in the Canadian press is itself opportunistic anti-Americanism. The other side of the "William Shatner / Jason Bay is a Canadian" fixation.

That's Reuters. (Which is now, I suppose, Canadian-owned -- the Thomsons added it to their empire, no?)
If you're going to insist that Reuters is anti-American, I won't fight you there.

Having been self-employed for the last 25 years I would have welcomed the opportunity to pay into EI to get mat benefits for the three kids. And surely you jest about our dear immigrant grannie getting a pension after three years. But if not here's a solution: a year of pension for each year of contribution.

Well, if it is a pro-rated pension of 5% in the first year, I am spending less that the year for a year proposal... so I take that to mean Jay agrees with me.
And I think the self-employed should be able to opt in and get full benefits. And grannie gets her 5% pension, too.
