It has been an extraordinary time in my sporting life. Not that I am doing anything whatsoever but who does that any more at my age? People looking for knee replacements in their sixties, that's who:
- Without me noticing, Morton seems to have picked up three wins and somehow found others below them in the table. Little more needs to be made of that other than it should serve as inspiration for you all.
- Since the Red Sox fulfilled their expectations and departed the playoffs accordingly, it's come to my attention that there are far better teams out there and one of them rhymes with Zlankies. Saturday night's game against the Angels was fantastic but for the fact that the Angels didn't win. Burnett's victory was that it was not a flop. Joba was alarmingly inconsistent for the next big thing. Rivera was not. What a day it will be when Mr. Rivera retires.
- I actually watched the last ten minutes of the Ticats against Montreal yesterday. The headline reads "Tough loss for Ticats" which is the same wording for 47% of all CFL headlines as I recall. No one seemed to notice in the last two minutes that the guy keeping time would let eight or ten seconds drain away between plays. No side line freaking out. No one scored a rouge, either.
- There was snow at New England and they won by a snooker score. Snow. I am a little unclear on my emotions about seeing snow that early. No, I'm not.
- I also watched the best part of the first period of the Leafs versus the Rangers on Saturday night. I don't know one Leaf player and neither did any of the Leafs apparently. GM Burke sees signs of life. He, however, is on the payroll. I feel guilty about letting the youngest walk around in the kiddie sized Leafs jersey but not if I don't let her out wearing it.
Well, that's it I suppose. I can daydream about Monday Night Football but, with this cold, I'll be in bed before the first quarter is over. Life's rich pageant continues.
