There is little doubt that Mr. Halladay will never play for Toronto again. Perhaps the greatest pitcher to ever play in Canada is the best player out there this off season and who ever gets him moves to a new level given the chance on an even moderately well stocked team could see him winning 25 games:
"He's probably one of the greatest if not the greatest Blue Jay to ever put on the uniform," the GM said. "But he wants to win and really, at this time, we were a 75-win team last year. "I think he's stated that his timeline for winning and ours may not mesh and may not match and for us right now," he added. "Roy's position is to wait and see what kind of a club we have in 2010, see what we can do from a win/loss standpoint. We respect that and we understand that."
You have to love that Toronto's timeline for winning is not, you know, when they play baseball next. The Red Sox are in their own transition year but one related to winning the World Series before the year 3027. And Halladay has said he in not ruling out playing a part. But who will be traded to the career meat grinder that is the Blue Jay club house? Buchholz was on the table last summer. Add a gaggle of minor leaguers? Lars Anderson? Could be the sort of far too speculative bait Toronto jumps at.

what about steib? what about stewart? and how about jack morris (and why isnt he in the hall of fame)? the sox won't trade new for old. theo is bringing his guys along slowly. he forsees a dynasty. just stay competitive next year and then they shed thier skin and make a five, six, eight year run at things with youk and pedroia, and lester as thier veteran core. i think a massive deal for adrian gonalez deal is likely. that's value for value. theo will do that. the padres need it. felix hernandez is in the mix too but he's more costly probably, and a pitcher is riskier than a position player (unless your initials are cc) so i dont see that happening. they'd pay cash for halliday if he wants to win, cut him a huge two year deal.....but that's not next year with the jays calling the shots. trading for somebody like halliday is just not what they do. frankly, i don't even expect jason bay will be back next year, certainly not for the four years he's surely looking for. can you say jd drew?

Can I say JD Drew because that is all I get to look at in the outfield. And don't say Lars Anderson in left because I have seen the future and it ain't Lars.

And if the Sox don't get Halladay and the Yanks do and he pitches until he is 42, that means the Red Sox are fighting for the wild card for the next decade.
