Comforting is the news this morning that soon every mall security guard will have a little widget that will allow them to scan you with microwaves as you pass through the aisles:
British scientists have developed a portable microwave scanner to help police identify individuals carrying concealed guns and knives. It is small enough to be used covertly, at some distance from the subject. The device is based around microwave radar technology and is designed to pick up the "reflections" of weapons concealed beneath clothing.
Or keys, coins, medical implants, those little clasps on garters, that thing someone slipped into their pocket when no one was watching... innards. Or maybe, if it can be tuned fine enough, the raised letters on your credit card. And, you know, the entire hallway or even outdoor main street system might was well be like a walking through the xray machine at an airport. Because we need to suspect all the time. Or fear.
Maybe it can be hooked up to Twitter, too.
