Great googly-boogly! Nova Scotia has not collapsed economically since either the recession or last week's victory by the NDP:
As the recession has taken hold, wreaking havoc in the North American job market and gutting home equity, Nova Scotia actually seems to be getting stronger. It had the best full-time job growth numbers in Canada over the past 12 months, and in Halifax, its largest city, home prices are expected to hold steady or increase this year, bucking a national drop of 7 per cent. “What's really neat about this is that during the whole recession, Halifax has quietly carried on as if there wasn't one,” said Stephen Lund, CEO of the province's business development agency, Nova Scotia Business Inc. “We're pretty excited about what we see.”
For someone who had to leave for a job back in the recession of the early nineties, this is pretty weird to read but a good weird. Nice to see, however, the Globe and Mail's comment makers attribute the pending doom of all associated with the story. Only the wisest or the most successful in life get to be Globe and Mail comment makers, after all. Or Albertan secessionists.
Uighur Update: four move to Bermuda.
