I still don't get the whole "Eyes North!" thing that the Federal government is pushing. But I really don't get the need to have a press conference just to restate what is already being done in a new way:
Instead of announcing aggressive new initiatives, the Northern Strategy seeks to tie together ones that are already in the works, but in a coherent way that will make the public realize how active Canada is in the North, ministers said. “All of this has been articulated in campaigns and in individual announcements, but it's never been articulated in one document,” Chuck Strahl, federal minister of Indian affairs and northern development, said in an interview.
So we mustn't have got it correctly the first few times around, is that it? Or is the new strategy due to a new strategist needing to make their mark on the same policy? Or is it because if you are a government and you have nothing new to announce that you have to announce something - anything - at regular intervals?
