Nice one for the Igg-ster. If this was one of those 1980s high school angst movies like Pretty in Pink, this might be a moment of foreshadowing of the big scene at the dance later on:
Newly minted Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff has snagged a senior adviser right out from under Prime Minister Stephen Harper's nose. Sources confirmed late Tuesday that Kevin Chan, executive assistant and director to top federal bureaucrat Kevin Lynch, has joined Mr. Ignatieff's team. As clerk of the Privy Council Office, Mr. Lynch directly advises the prime minister on policy, administrative and political matters. He is the link between the Prime Minister's Office and the deputy ministers who run each government department.
Like all bloggers really, I know nothing of the players involved so cannot make any comment but for the play itself. Nice also to see that "Mr. Chan was chosen as a fellow of Action Canada, a nationwide network of young Canadians deemed to have shown exceptional talent and leadership abilities" but I am starting to be of an age when that works against a person in my mind. Not out of any substantive opinion of the good fellows of Action Canada, of course, so much as a slowly entrenching general bitterness towards the young and more clever which I hope will brighten my remaining years.
Point to Count Iggy-meister.

Is that really a coup? Sounds more like 5th-column sabotage. This is the government who has the worst track record of listening to their experts, and the biggest history of uninformed top-down rule. What has this guy done besides deliver reports that don't get read and issue edicts that he didn't write?

Maybe nothing but his reports are good.

Well... I guess it's a good barometer of how the bureaucracy views the PM right now.
That move seems to be a middle finger extended to him.

Well, a middle finger I can get behind. So to speak.
