Just like that, Canadian politics are sent for a loop one more time. Coalition gone. Smug Harper staring at the numbers and we are all saying "Thank God Stephane Dion is Gone-dee-bye-byes!!"
Liberal support stood at 34 per cent, one point ahead of the Conservatives and up eight points from the Liberals' dismal showing in the Oct. 14 election under the leadership of Stéphane Dion. The Tories slipped almost five points from the election to 33 per cent while NDP and Green support was virtually unchanged at 19 per cent and seven per cent respectively. The Liberal resurgence was particularly pronounced in Quebec, where the poll indicates the party vaulted into the lead with 39 per cent support to 29 per cent for the Bloc Québécois, 17 per cent for the Tories and 14 per cent for the New Democrats.
It's been a decade of this, hasn't it. You can admit it. You remember when Day beat Manning and everyone said "what the hell is that about" and then it was Chretien v. Day and everyone said "what the hell is that about" and then Paul Martin decided to kill the Liberal party from within by killing off Chretien and everyone said "what the hell is that about" and then it was Martin v. Harper and everyone said "what the hell is that about" and then it was Harper v. NOBODY and he couldn't win and everyone said "what the hell is that about" and then it was Dion and and everyone really said "what the hell is that about" and then it was a coalition and everyone said "what the hell is that about"and then it was the GG and everyone said "what the hell is that about" and then it was Iggy and...nothing. It was the holidays. And Iggy went off to write the end to a book and - WHAMMO! - he is ahead in the polls.
What a nutty nutty place Canada is.
