When I was early on in being a Dad, I figured it would be supporting the girl's confidence that would be a concern. However, at a certain point, the pervasive girl power stuff and its cousin the dopey Dad in TV ads wears upon you if only because the opposite is taboo. So it was with a bit of irritation that I saw this tidbit of pendulum swing at the tourism site for the Province of Ontario. Could there really be a "be girl-free" theme to a tourism package? I can't imagine why anyone would characterize a guy time in that way..you know, if you are over nine years old. Maybe we'll skip the Ottawa trip this winter.

Well, maybe it's time to bring back men's clubs. :p

Well, I am a lapsed Mason so I do have that option but that is not what I am noting this for. My point is why not phrase it as a positive, not a negative? Boys have enough to put up with without being labeled as part of someone else's problem due only to the crap shoot that is gender allocation.

Oh, sure.
But I think of it as a good warning flag -- women (and businesses) who talk like that are ones to be avoided.

You are still seeking that dating relationship, right.

I rather liked mens' clubs when they actually were not all about business and connections and you would be posted for bringing out "papers" in the Club. Once they became about business they could no longer be segregated in any way. Which was right and, sadly, meant that billiards rooms were replaced with gyms and the happy afternoons with one's own bottle of gin were replaced with networking breakfasts...sigh.
That said, I cannot imagine anything duller than a weekend getaway in a hotel segregated by gender. But that is because I find women endlessly fascinating with, I fear, present company excepted, is not the case with men.

I thought there was an Oscar nominee for live short about a gentleman's lunchtime dance club but I see no reference to it.

I am.
But it's a good indicator all 'round. Don't want to be hectored on any social occasion, really.

Luckily for me, I married a geeky farmgirl of sorts who shuns the company of other women and tends to think of Girls Gatherings as tedious and annoying. On the other hand, it means I am never the beneficiary of a free night or weeknend where she goes on Women's Institute getaways to knitting seminars and national quilting bees.
On the other hand, i'd rather be dipped in tempura and deep fried than spend a weekend with a bunch of guys talking about hockey and drinking Canadian.
