Hey! It's election night!! Excellent. I have a beer from Quebec - Péché Mortel, an Imperial coffee stout - and another from Alberta - Alley Kat Olde Deuteronomy, a barley wine - one of which will be consumed depending on how the Conservatives fare. Because, as we've been told since Preston Manning first croaked the word reFOOOOOOrm, it's all about the 30% or so who identify themselves as conservative. And it could be fun, as so far, we have had two squeeks of Tory trauma here in this one blog: David's saying that the backroomers are scared and Chris's bailing on voting at all. I don't believe a word of it. Stephen will rule to 2347 AD.
- 5:45 pm I decide to kiss the "Canada Votes" theme goodbye as I write the introduction. That moneky is off my back. Sick of it. Just sick. I still rank #20 for "Canada Votes" though. I rock.
- 5:55 pm: back from the elementary school gym where I voted as I expected. I sure wish I was my size when I was going to elementary school. I would have smoked them all in basketball and murderball. Man that would have been sweet.
- 5:59 pm: three and a half hours to polls closing. Hmmm...maybe I'll just pop a beer now...
- 6:39 pm: I just realized that Péché Mortel likely does not mean "deadly peach".
- 6:51 pm: a new pool: by percent, how many SDA pool respondents will gnash their teeth, blame "the MSM" and proclaim Alberta will leave the Confederation by the weekend when their dreams of majority are dashed on the citadel of Quebec?
- 6:59 pm: Damian Penny, a possible source of an early seat count blurt from out east, reminds us all of the Natural Law Party.
- 7:09 pm: Darcey has a STOP HARPER!! thread going.
- 7:22 pm: Using Monitter to check for Twitter cheaters who blurt election results from Newfoundland.
- 7:47 pm: I can't believe I have yet to find anyone who is spilling the Newfie results.
- 8:10 pm: Not to "transmit the result or purported results or anything" but WOW!
- 8:35 pm: Jay is spreading rumours.
- 8:36 pm: JASON BAY GETS A HIT! First and third with one out...but a double play. Drag.
- 8:36 to 9:21 pm: computer seizes! I swear a lot.
- 9:35 pm: TV is now covering the biggest news item of the year, two and a half hours after it starts.
- 9:55 pm: This instant roll out of everything from Gaspe to the BC border makes for very bad TV. No punditry time. Just people struggling to keep up with the numbers.
- 10:02 pm: Tories have a 12 seat gain so far. The Bloq is down 6! Maybe Quebecers hate art after all.
- 10:17 pm: No Tory supporter gnashing tonight me thinks.
- 10:28 pm: Green support collapses at 6.4% compared to almost twice that in last week's polling.
- 11:02 pm: I saw it all coming. I really did. I knew from day one that Tories would get into the respectable 37% range.
Well, plenty to think about for a while. Go to bed.

May the Peche Morte take the blueberry aftertaste out of your mouth :-)
Jay Jardine links something worth noting, although it's too little too late this year for Alan, heh. Anyone know any good websites that will be reporting the results out east before the polls close in the west?
Alan - October 14, 2008 7:36 pm
Wouldn't that be a thought crime?
Temujin - October 14, 2008 7:39 pm
According to some.
Temujin - October 14, 2008 7:57 pm
More importantly, I'm enjoying a Grasshopper Wheat Beer from Big Rock brewery.
And here's to you, Alan. The blogger who simultaneously cheeses me off, makes me laugh and forces me to think.
Five minutes 'till they close in NFLD.
Alan - October 14, 2008 8:00 pm
Wooo! Cheesing people off!!! That is what it is all about.
Keep out eyes on the east, people. Find out whose going to get charged for the election result blurt!
Temujin - October 14, 2008 8:04 pm
If the riding of Skeena-Bulkley Valley comes down to one vote, I'll be very upset.
Ben (The Tiger) - October 14, 2008 8:22 pm
Blue Label, for me.
Drained the bottle with this glass, though, so I'll have to switch to Glenmorangie, soon...
Sean - October 14, 2008 8:52 pm
Oh yes, the SDA people will be out in full voice if a majority is not handed over... A very good friend of mine, my bset man 10 years ago this month in fact, likes to say at every election "Ontario people are just f&*^*&g stupid" every time we don't tow the line and vote con. They just don't get that "my opinion is mine but not necessarily yours" stuff..
Temujin - October 14, 2008 8:53 pm
Erhm, the comments section has a little sumpin' sumpin'.
Though, it ain't exactly the best I was hoping for.
Ben (The Tiger) - October 14, 2008 9:08 pm
I was just about to post a comment about looking for a belligerent beaver for some early news.
But the direct link seems to have made it here already.
westerner - October 14, 2008 9:17 pm
What is a good site for pre-media blackout results in the west?
Temujin - October 14, 2008 9:21 pm
Westerner: See that link two comments above yours.

What an absolutely antiquated law.
Ben (The Tiger) - October 14, 2008 9:34 pm
It is</em> a very silly law...

Stella yikkie.
David Janes - October 14, 2008 10:37 pm
Hey guys, what's going on?
Alan - October 14, 2008 10:39 pm
Election is on. Haven't you heard?
David Janes - October 14, 2008 10:41 pm
Woah ;-)
CBC thinks everyone has HD. We have shifted to CTV so we can read the screen.
Someone who isn't "David Janes" - October 14, 2008 10:45 pm
Don't listen to word he says. CBC rulz ;-)
Alan - October 14, 2008 10:47 pm
I hate Lloyd Robertson. He speaks too slowly. CBC folk speak much more quickly.
NPR's coverage is crap.
David Janes - October 14, 2008 10:53 pm
Lot's of early interesting results.

Alan, I'm gnashing my teeth right now.
If my guys hadn't blown it in Quebec...
Still, maybe the discipline of the minority is good for Harper.
David Janes - October 14, 2008 11:45 pm
Given the BQ vote ... the CCP had no chance.

Peter Kent is leading in Thornhill, hometown of my youth. That's cool.
Also Gerry Kennedy is slam-dunking Peggy Nash, which is also cool (and entirely a surprise, to me). Back to CAW with her...
David Janes - October 14, 2008 11:57 pm
Night all. Mea culpa thread tomorrow?
Ben (The Tiger) - October 14, 2008 11:58 pm
So close. So very close.
If Peter Kent wins, though, I think that'll be very cool.
Kent's a good man.

I now will sum up for you all. Off to the land of Nod with you! Sleep. Perchance to dream.
Ben (The Tiger) - October 15, 2008 12:11 am
Nonsense.
We need to see the speeches.
Alan - October 15, 2008 12:13 am
Why? None of them gave a barn burner on the campaign trail. What are they going to add now? Unless Dion quits. That would put the cat into the next Parliament.
Ben (The Tiger) - October 15, 2008 12:19 am
That's what I'm waiting to see about.
That and I want to see how the PM is. Buoyant, or glum. (Or angry.)
Jay Currie - October 15, 2008 12:35 am
Well, out here in blackout land, the night is young and speculation can run wild...
Of course Stella, it was a night for lager loutishness.
I will be tuning in tomorrow to see if Alan can top last election's "I for one welcome our new rural overlords."
Bill Koltok - October 15, 2008 12:50 am
Hi There:
Respectable 37% +/-. It is nice to have not only a Tory leader in the drivers seat, but a western one at that. Maybe Steven can team up with the Bloc or whomever wishes to ride the Tory band wagon. Ya know I'm only a western Tory redneck, but it's nice to know that our voice will be heard. Thanks again Mr. Dion for making that royal screw up like only a Liberal can do. Did you really think you had a chance at becoming a PM? People with delusions of Grandeur should know when to walk away. Maybe it's time to start looking for a new Trudeau. "Bon Voyage Dion"
sean - October 15, 2008 9:39 am
Hmm.. 37%.. Interesting how a number of years back, all the conservadroids were up in arms about how could we possibly, possibly accept that a government was formed by a party that didn't have a majority of percentage support accross the nation! Egad.. how opinions change to suit the situation ;)
sean - October 15, 2008 9:40 am
Whoops, sorry Bill. Forgot to say "I'm with Bill, Bon Voyage Dion".
