It was an interesting thing to do, drive 3400 km to see some old friends and meet other people I have only known through blogs and other web media. Not nearly as creepy as it should have been. Except the location. A bit too Ibsen for me. A bit too howl-yowly wind rattling the window pane. I asked someone on the second day and they admitted that they had also slept with the light on.
You can read about the conference at Deane's blog, Rob's blog, the other Rob's blog. There are also photos at Steve's gallery, and at Stephen's post as well as portraits at Rannie's.
I am hardly referenced. It's like I wasn't there. Should I have played less roughly at football?
Plenty of clever people came a long way to sit around and discuss stuff. It was a bit of a filter meaning that you were locked up with people who would also travel that far to sit around and discuss stuff. I was hugged by a man from Sweden as I left for my car when it was time to go. I felt a bit old mentioning Frippertronics when people were discussing how mp3s made mixing new. How can things be new when I had the albums 30 years ago? "What about Les Paul and Mary Ford!" I thought but did not shout out.
But I learned much. I took notes in a little book. I have now signed up for LastFM after hearing it described by someone who works for it. Apparently they have figured out an approach to the quandary of ethical access to free music you select. Daniel Burka wagged his finger at my lack of commitment to Digg. I sipped a 28 year old Rosebank whisky. It was quite the thing.

If Daniel Burka ever got tired of this computer stuff, he could have a brilliant career as the world's most gentlemanly soccer referee.

Hey Al - I had a bottle of Straight Lightning (150) on the window sill assuming it wold draw you in. Conversation would have been less interesting or creative, but we could have exchanged lawyer jokes and insurance rascal jokes. <sniff>..I have been snubbed by better.

You would not believe the whirl-wind that is driving 1700 km, arriving after supper, spending a day recovering and then leaving before lunch to drive another 1700 km . I snubbed many - even Keith who runs the store at South Rustico. I am agast at my own manners. But I usually am.
