This piece by Paul Wells is one of the best summaries of the nature of the Federal Conservative government I have seen yet, especially this observation:
...understand this: if anyone ever manages to beat Stephen Harper fair and square in a general election, we will see a display of gracelessness in defeat without precedent in the history of Confederation. This is simply guaranteed. It is what he does. That will be a delicious day (as nothing is so fun to watch as a self-proclaimed great man discovering no one cares) and one that I hope does not come at our expense after a term of them in majority. I don't mind them that much when kept in check but could you imagine the arrogance of unbridled authority?

I had stopped reading Paul Wells for a while and then went back to see if I was missing something. With that piece you refer too, he seems to be getting re-focussed. It was one of the best assessments of the Harper style of government I have seen recently and a fresh look at the Harper phenomenon. I couldn't agree more.
