Here we are on the last religious holiday left in the calendar. Somehow merchandisers have yet to figure out how to take advantage of Jesus on the cross to sell me a chocolate lump or to fashion an ad campaign for cars. For a brief while in high school there were a spate of Good Friday jokes like the one with the punchline where Jesus tells Peter that he can see his house from up there. But we were too uncomfortable to keep those ones going. They were grim:
- Are you working today? I think most Canadians have the day off and Monday as well.
- Syracuse smoked Maryland in the NIT yesterday. A damn fine effort and one that may put me in a seat for the third round. My short term NCAA favorite Cornell got blown away in the senior national tourney by Stanford. I have no idea who I support now. Michigan State? I have a Michigan State tee. Maybe that's it.
- Just in time for my week off - the loonie collapses. Sure, I beer blog ads are in USD but that is not the point. I may be able to fit in a day of searching out CNY hots, more Utican that Rochesterian plus a visit to Fort Stanwix. Maybe I will even get to Famous Lunch, surely the greatest name of any eatery in the world, though that is a bit of a haul. Heid's is definitely in play - where I may finally learn the difference between a chili dog and a Texas hot. Further inquiries would be required to then compare the Michigan and the Tobin's First Prizes of Ogdensburg.
- I need a to do list: taxes, parging, mashing and bottling, writing that story, about 1,000 situps...what else?
- Not only is there New England and Atlantic Canadian candlepin bowling but now I've come across Maryland duckpin bowling. More here.

Working -- picked up a crisis contract for a job that needs to be finished by Monday. Don't know whether to add a ':-(' or ':-)' to this comment...

I think more people will work on Monday than not. Even the provincial government run LCBO is open.

Off today and working Monday for me. The only people I know who have Monday off are federal employees. I'm sure there are others, but they're certainly in the minority.
