Last night's 1-0 defeat to the Yankees was capped off with an outraged Mike Lowell jumping up and down in the ninth after being called out on a pitch that was so far inside and so high that, given earlier events of the day, it could have been the cause of a beanball warning rather than a strike. But that is not what has Steven Buckley of the Boston Herald in knots. No, today it's about Manny:
But now it’s time for the Red Sox to be big boys about all this and either continue with the enabling . . . or, and let’s say it again, toss Manny out. Literally. Throw him out. No, wait, that would be violent. And we don’t want to be advocating violence here. That’s Manny’s job - you know, tossing 64-year-old men to the ground and all that. So escort Manny out to the pavement, right out there on Yawkey Way, and tell him to take his whiny agents and sycophants with him.
See, Manny didn't play. Manny has an option year coming up and Buckley is convinced that Manny is floating, calling in sick or just calling it in as with that three pitch, no swing appearing in the ninth a few weeks ago.
I like the idea of trading Manny now but not because of any outrage but because this might be the time to get value for him. Send him to the Mets or another National League team and pick up prospects. Anywhere but the Yankees - heck, send him to the Jays for all I care. Treat him like the asset he is and let him go.

Dude, Angels just got Tiexiera. (giant grin)
3-4-5. Now that's a solid group of Tex, Hunter, and Guerrero. Figgins still gets on. Come playoffs you guys are in trouble. ;)
I dunno, Al. What're you gonna do to fill his bat in the lineup? He sucks in the field, so just about anything is a step up. True, with Lowell and what's his name in RF, you're not exactly hurting for power, but Ramirez and Ortiz seem to feed off of each other. That chemistry is not easy to replace.
My advice? Pay the man. I wouldn't mind if you traded him as it would make things a lot simpler for my team in the playoffs, but if you want to do more than just be the Braves of the 1990s you need to keep the current team together and that means keeping Senior Headcase.
