Because it's my birthday! Imagine - me, forty-five. Boy am I old. So old I bought black Doc Marten boots yesterday which I now consider my first mid-life crisis purchase. And it's gonna be sunny and warm today plus through the weekend. And it's Friday. And portland's showing for the weekend. And stuff. Excellent.

- Our blog-pal and comment maker Jay has brought a human rights complaint over a hateful cartoon that appeared in a Quebec publication but he has brought the complaint in part to highlight his disagreement with the process whereby you can complain about publication of hateful things. I am confused but expect to be entertained. I think all this whining over human rights processes by fringy right-wing bloggers is nuts but our non-fringy right-wing neighbours are ofter the best arbitors of this stuff given their distaste for the fringe.
- And, if only as a gift to me, today's "haha-PEI is funny place" note - apparently Blue Rodeo rock too much. You know, the band that is older than me.

AFA the 2010 Olympic protest potential goes, I don't care who protests so long as they don't slow me down on my way to work or home or otherwise interfere in my daily life. Granted, I don't particularly support the rather annoying attention hound Shawn Brant Club to the west of us. On the whole the native people do have some issues that for the most part go under the radar and what the heck, if you are going to host a public event, expect that someone will use that to gain attention for things you tend to ignore the rest of the year.
Blah blah blah friday. Its an overrated day really.

I have been quite entertained by Jay and the Human Rights issue and I must say I am in agreement with him. The thing is, I don't think I am a fringy right winger or even a right winger. I don't support the CHRC supporter(s) so I guess I'm not a left winger either. What's left? Goalie, defence?

I am thinking of lodging a human rights complaint against the city licensing commission. Peopl in Toronto deserve a broader choice of street-meat carts; more than just hotdogs and snausages. Why can't we have shawarma-carts or a log 'o mapley bacon cart?

When I was a little kid in 1960s suburban Toronto, we went to the "Foods of the World" courtyard at the CNE every year to eat nutty things like chinese food with bean sprouts and other "ethnic" fare. My favorite, however, was the "Canadian" booth. My parents were immigrants so for us "Canadian" was as exotic as a Swiss fondue. What did we ear from that Canuck fast food shack? A slab of back bacon on a white bread bun. We need more people taking our bacony heritage seriously.

Congrats, Al. And why are Docs a midlife crisis purchase. They're dang comfy, when I can afford to buy them(nursing one pair that's 8 years old, kinda sorta dressy looking things).
All I can see is that Canada had issues with a 15 year old being sent to Gitmo. Full stop. Fine. so they should've sent him to something else to stay in instead. We all know that witnesses are typically considered the weakest link in any case(Rashamon effect, they all describe the same event totally differently, and that hurts their cred). I don't know why you say this kid's dad took him to the fight? A hint as to where this info comes from forthcoming, maybe? He could still be dirty. Let him have his(belated) day in court.

I bought my other Docs when I was 23, brown loafers.
His Dad is the only reason he was brought into this. Other children were drawn in, too. There is some 2003 background here and wikipedia has this information about one who may have assisted the CIA for what it is worth.

Cripes Mugabe is such a freakazoid. I do not seriously think that apart from the few thousand well bribed supporters that he keeps at bay, that there are very many people would would shed a tear or stifle a wicked smile if the old nutbar was assassinated.
