So I took today off and a few more days between now and the end of the year. That means zippo to you but I seem to have won the weather lotto so there.
- I think the whole Harper fluffball this week about the Speech from the Throne is another small embarrassment for us all leading to lack of confidence in the Federal leadership. The idea that voting for a list of generalities in a minority government context means you have to buy all the details is dumb, not a challenge, not an act of political mastery - dumb. The Tories got a moderately weak mandate and would again. Our local Fed NDP candidate and blogger and commenter hereabouts speaks on the point as does the man know as EL Tigre...no, the other one. Me, I want to see a surprise coalition spring up in response to the speech, avoiding an election - but only for giggles as I would not like the policies. But that is about as much credibility Ottawa has with me these days.
- Leaf peeping. It would seem that we would be better advised to go south east than stay in Ontario.
- They figured out the story behind the recall of Stella Artois in August. They were display bottles. So good move, InBev, making your display models of a beer bottle with a sickening ethanol mixture inside. How about coloured water next time?
- Canada continues to morph into the economic rulers of the planet that we are destined to be. Note:
Overall employment in Ontario jumped by 30,000 for what the statistics gathering agency said was the first significant gain this year. The province's jobless rate ticked down to 6.2 per cent, still above the national average but arguably good news for the governing Liberals in the last days of the election campaign. Ontario has gained 77,000 jbos so far this year.
Things going well. Things good. So who do you punish if the snap election is called for no reason? And will Dalton now get a bigger majority? - I gotta go plan what meat to grill on the BBQ. Maybe I will go west Kentucky style. Reminds me of Billy Blake now that I think of it.
Little lamb, who made thee?And made you tasty, too...
Dost thou know who made thee,
Gave thee life, and bade thee feed
By the stream and o’er the mead;
Gave thee clothing of delight,
Softest clothing, wooly, bright;
Gave thee such a tender voice,
Making all the vales rejoice?
Little lamb, who made thee?
Dost thou know who made thee?

My analysis notwithstanding, I enjoy elections. So I'm perfectly happy to sign up for my absentee ballot for this one.
About the rotating set of confidence motions -- I don't think it's dumb. It can backfire, but it's not ill-thought-out. Otherwise, the opposition will just continue to unite against the government.
Still, it would also be fun to see Stephane Dion cobble together an anti-Harper tripartite pact, and have us go through King-Byng II. About the only things more fun than elections are constitutional crises.

Oh, and don't forget the 'Stan, Alan.
Though you will poke fun at the other issues, that's one which even you hold dear. (And Iggy, too. Which'll make things yet more interesting.)

I hadn't thought of the downside of Harper's gambit as analyzed over at El Tigre's, but I like it! I too would hate the policies of a coalition, but it would be an interesting parliamentary exercise unseen in recent memory.
Go Tribe Go!

Word in the Globe this morning is that the Federal Tory candidates have been told to be ready for a late fall campaign. There are "5 or 6 items" in the throne speech that the "opposition will find unaccetable" in the thrown speech. Yahoo.

"Federal coalition! Federal coalition!"
That is a crappy chant. I need a better one.

Should the government fall, I want to see the GG exercise her right to ask the opposition to form a government. :-)

A few comments on the game.
1) Dont like the plate umpire. His strike zone seems fluid and he's being real stingy with low strikes.
2) Matsuzaka didn't have his A game stuff tonight. 60 pitches in 2 innings? Ouch. He's lucky to only have given up 3.
3) At least they didn't have the big problem they had in Cleveland. What was up with that? Did Bezelbub show up or something?

I hate that ump. What is up with that? Only call that outside curveball off the plate when runners are in scoring position? What an asshole.
No, the ump didn't decide the game. Ramirez did that. BUt I hate inconsistent strike zones and umps who over influence events.
And I want to shoot that kid. Little punk.
And where's the new post for the day, Al? Harumph.
