You know like integrity, credibility? Is it possible that this is the last gasp of a now dead institution that not too long ago was touted as a pillar of the national community?
A CBC spokesman said the network is simply doing its "due diligence" in holding Beyond The Red Wall: The Story of Falun Gong for prime time, in order to make it "more solid" before airing it at an unspecified date. "If there is re-editing that's required, we're going to do that," CBC spokesman Jeff Keay said. He confirmed the network had been talking with Chinese diplomats who had expressed concerns about promotions the CBC had aired in the run up to this week's broadcast.Hmm...a news documentary - to be shown in repeat - is pulled because of diplomatic pressure from, you know, a tyranny. Would the news documentary people pull a story that they had run on political pressure, too? Nice. Sweet, even.
What, then, is the relationship between the CBC news documentary folk and, you know, the citizenry - the folk who own the network and pay taxes to subsidize the jobs of the news documentarians so that the citizenry has access to well made, independent and dauntless journalism. Either they were wrong in the first broadcast and should apologize to the nation (this nation) or they should apologize now (to this nation) and run it unedited.

Any "news" organization that holds a broadcast due to unspecified "concerns" of a pressure group has lost the right to call themselves that. Shameful.

I wonder if it has anything at all to do with this?

I guess Harper has decided that, rather than abolish the CBC, it's much easier to use the CBC as his main media vehicle. After all, he paid for it. He should get to use it to broadcast political propaganda, and should be able to force it not to publish things that aren't exactly in line with his government's public policy.
Maybe I'm just a conspiracy nut. Or ... maybe not!!?!!

My theory: it's all part of the CBC's anti-Harper bent.
As he's been tweaking the Chinese government's tail, clearly it's time for the CBC to start kowtowing to Beijing. :p
