Ahh but how can one desensitize children to the real world if they don't start early.....(I say dripping with sarcasm)

I remember having an argument with a former sister in law years ago about Barney. She is as daycare person who said it was wrong to let kids pretend that the world was happy happy all the time. I told her she was an idiot because there is no reason to depress children before they have to be depressed.

On the other hand, Monster House was an awesome movie.

And the mere idea of having an pronunciation guide in the title of a movie is moronic pandering to the uneducated target audience who would have no idea how to explain to the kids how to say the word .. ugh

I am not against Barney because it is happy happy but because it is smarmy and everyone knows who grew up with the Flintstones that the proper place for a dinosaur is one the plate as BBQ ribs. Mr. Rogers (and to a degree Mr. Dress-up) set the proper tone IMHO as there is the underlying implication that, for many of the audience, life was not all sunshine but one could carry on pleasantly regardless. These Disney and Pixar movies all seem to have a central theme of parents disappearing unexpectedly that sets the scene. Bambi's mother keeps getting killed or at least you wonder if her equivalent, too, is on the BBQ.
