Stirling Crushed!
Beauty. I trust you have all aching heads after celebrating the most important sporting event of 2007, Morton's
victory yesterday over Stirling in Scottish League Second Division play:
Morton extended their lead at the top of the Second Division to 12 points with a convincing victory. The home side took the lead in 19 minutes after a defensive lapse by Sean Roycroft allowed Paul McGowan to blast home from 12 yards. Morton wrapped up the victory in the 71st minute when Chris Millar sent Jim McAlistair - who looked offside - through to fire past Myles Hogarth. Stirling pulled one back a minute from time through Ian Cashmore's header.
Note: "convincing," "blast home," "fire past" - BBC sports reporters don't save words like these for just any game, you know. Again, the
insightful comments of the manager strike me like the day I first saw colour TV:
All in all it was a great result for us. We could have scored two or three in the first half. I thought we were a bit nervy in the second half. The park was very heavy. The boys' attitude was great, the way they closed them down. Our league doesn't get the respect it deserves. Our league is tough. Three weeks ago at half time at Somerset Park we were second in the league. Now we are 12 points ahead. The lads have put us in a fantastic position.
Magic. Brilliant. Magic and brilliant. Not heavy -
very heavy.
