I suppose my interest this morning in an article about the Yankees v. the Jays this morning indicates my real depth of interest in the NFL. I would be concerned that the AL East might be entering into a three way era but it appears that Toronto's GM thinks his pitching rotation is weak:
Roy Halladay, the staff leader, had late-season problems with his forearm, missed his last two starts and didn’t win any of his last six starts. Elbow problems limited A. J. Burnett to 21 starts, and Gustavo Chacín started only 17 games because of elbow and forearm ailments. Those three pitchers will make up the core of the starting rotation. Shaun Marcum, who made 14 starts last season, and John Thomson, who had a 2-7 record for Atlanta and has a history of injuries, will join them. Missing will be Ted Lilly, who defected to the Cubs for $40 million. "Someone’s going to have to step up and replace the 180 innings we lost," Ricciardi said of Lilly. "Then if we can stay a little more healthy in the rotation, we should be O.K." Ricciardi won’t let himself roam into the realm of unrealistic expectations.Pitching is over-rated in baseball anyway, right? Certainly if you think the lost lynch pin is Lilly. Right now you can put the Jay's second place in 2006 down to the Red Sox injury-ridden August collapse. Add the potential for this year's Sox having the greatest pitching rotation in the history of all sport and I really don't see a threat of a repeat.

yeah, well, if the pitching tanks, i'm coming for you.

and yeah lilly sucks - except when he pitches agaisnt the sox. it's a ridiculous notion that he's the difference in anybody's staff. him and calvin sharaldi. let six rookies pitch the extra 180. you'd do just as well.

Exactly! And you will get the benefit of learning about those rookies while spreading the risk.
