Winter tires are great for winter driving. Not good for spring, summer or fall though. Longer stopping distances, less traction, greater rate of wear and higher gas consumption. That's why you don't see them on the F1 circuit - no matter how hard it's raining.

Untrue. Excellent traction. And expecially better traction in a downpour and very sticky on hot dry pavement. Same life cycle as all weather due to deeper tread. Certainly louder and a little more gas for more safety is well worth it.
