Well, there is not much better than a win after eleven losses - unless it is an Arsenal win over Man U. Again the game was on "the Megaplex in Manland" - and was even followed while a 13 child birthday party flowed, screamed, ran and cried all around it. In a game that was really a show of skills by #2 Taj Smith, the Carney moment in their 31-21 win over Illinois was when the Orange held onto the ball on a fourth down, getting a delay of game penalty, so that he could hammer a punt to the Illini's 8 yard line. The next game is at home at the Carrier Dome next week when they take on 0-3 Miami of Ohio at 7 p.m. Is there a Cincinnati of Florida? While it should be a win, I will only find out the outcome on Sunday as I am off to Ottawa to see Bill Bragg that night.
By the way, Syracuse was #3 on last week's ESPN Bottom 10 in college football before the win. Yesterday Miami (Ohio) lost to Kent State who was #2 on the list of the goats. Illinois was way up there in eighth from the worst. The week after Miami (Ohio) the Orange play Wyoming again at home who (at 1-2) have only beaten Utah State (who lost to Utah 0-48 yesterday) so we are not talking about the clashes of the Titans in any of these games. Yet by October, the Orange could actually be 3-2. But then the wall as the upcoming games on 14 and 21 October are against teams currently ranked #3 and #8 - in the top ten ranking. Yikes.
