Who knew? Dynamic and an honest name, too: Plenty of Nothing. A stark, disconcerting absence of baseball related yappetry to date, though someone is reading Koppett.
Entirely Unrelated Update: This is today's task.
Not Entirely Unrelated To The Entirely Unrelated Update Update: It is a 1957 Eagle NHL "Pro" Official Hockey game. But toy acquisition policy #357 says non-slot-hockey rod-hockey is to be decorative given the familiarity and expectations resulting from the 1960s slot-hockey rod-hockey break-through. Be prepared to admit your weakness if you follow this link.

There is a brief note about a Lynx/Bisons game in mid August. But expect far more about hockey tablature. Cool set! Does it have the regular diamond-shaped posts or the flat 1950s ones?

I thing this detail answers your question. Click for even more finesse:

By the way, you have the 1967 Eagle 12 team set still, right?

I do believe those are in that big box of hockey cards that went from your house to my house and back again.
Alan - September 2, 2006 5:48 PM
I will hunt them out.

The picture to the right is a detail of the entire set. I think the California Seals logo is of a team that actually never played. It was the California Seals for a few months before being the Oakland Seals which later became the California Golden Seals when they had to take into account the coolness of Carl Vadnais's moustache.
I am pretty sure that we got this set when I was four, Christmas 1967. Note that we still have the pucks.

I would guess it was Christmas 1969. I don't remember having any awareness of hockey before that year.

I wonder what happens in a house with children when there are vintage toys on display? Is there a special vault or daddy's locked playroom, complete with beer stash and toys too collectible and valuable to play with?
Alan - September 3, 2006 10:07 AM
I thnk there is such a generation gap in toys that there is little interest. Plus, they are musch more interested in talking down the Yankees than the Habs.

Christmas '69 sounds right to me. I can remember the thing in the basement in Mississauga, in Sydney Mines on the blue folding camp table, and in Iain's bedroom in Kington, N.S. There's somebody selling that set of twelve teams for $350 on ebay right now. I'll have to watch out for tin Buffalo and Vancouver teams.

The kids next door have a lego hockey set, which is a small table hockey type game. I know what I want for Christmas.

I always thought Tie Domi looked like he was made of Lego blocks.

The seam at the back of the neck was much less noticible when he had the mullet in Winnipeg.
