The injuries are over and the winning ways begin again. There is time but not much chance given the quality ahead of the Sox.
And I have to admit a moment of weakness. I bought a Mets hat. Not like a fitted one or anything. Did you know that the Mets colours are a mix of the New York Giants and the Brooklyn Dodgers? The Mets are losing a few, too, now. But when you are 15 games up who cares. I suspect it is the Detroit Red Wings glide to the playoffs we are witnessing.
You are aware that Julio Franco is now 48 years and 14 days old, right? I bought a car sticker, too. And one for the Sox as well. The guy at the counter gave me the "...and exactly how do you explain this?" look.

I hope the bandwagon has good shocks.....

Considering the Red Sox and Cubs are out of it, my vote goes for a Mets-Yanks world series, like a few years ago, except this time the Mets kick some Yankee ass.

Having listened to the Mets on WFAN for at least a decade and a half from the Ottawa Valley, PEI and now the St. Lawrence Valley I simply cannot accept that characterization of this as bandwagoning. It is the admission of transfer of affection that I speak of. Can love include an AL and an NL. [Hmmm...there seems to be a very elementary issue in the cryptogram of that last sentence.]

Hey, speaking of ball caps, I seem to remember someone gave somebody a cap this weekend. I wonder if we will get to see that modeled here?
Alan - September 6, 2006 12:54 PM
I believe were are in brim alignment phase of cap ownership.

yes, Alan, NL and AL love is not mutually exclusive, as my own orientation makes clear above, and depending on where you live and have lived, as long as the Yankees remain despised. This also enables you to visit here next summer and enjoy the rather terrific experience of the Binghamton Mets.

Oh yes, flat brims are no good but easily fixed with rubber bands and a can.

Oakland will hopefully represent the AL in the World Series. I've been a fan since their days in Kansas City, where my father's family is from, when we went to some games during visits. Green and yellow uniforms while the rest of the league wore white or gray. A mechanical rabbit that came up from behind home plate to deliver fresh balls to the umpire. A flock of sheep grazing on a hill in centerfield. A donkey named Charlie O (the owner was Charles O. Finley) as a roaming mascot, outside the stadium, of course. This kid was hooked, ditched the Yankees and stayed with the A's when they moved to Oakland (Joe D. as their hitting coach that first year didn't hurt).
Oakland's GM, Billy Beane, runs circles around the Yankees' Brian Cashman, having as he does about a third of NY's money to work with. I suspect that Cashman, who's come up empty five years in a row now (soon to be six, I hope), has something on Steinbrenner. Then again, word is that Big George is losing it, is frail and forgetful, so maybe that's helped Cashman stay on.

T-bo--the wife says 'yay!' because she is from KC too.

Julio Franco has never won a World Series, in 24 stinkin' seasons!

Neither did Ted Williams. That is what makes the championship so important but also so temporal and temporary. Julio is forever and is a man for all times, for kids of all ages. I like my Mets hat. They swept a back-to-back double header today, not twi-night nor day-night.
