Well, the Liberals seem to be going as I thought they might. We shall be inundated with chants of "All for Iggy and Iggy for all" and "Iggy, Iggy - he's our man..." Stuff like that:
Liberals have handed Michael Ignatieff a sizable lead that he will carry into the party's December leadership convention, with three contenders still fighting to emerge as his chief rival. Three days of voting for leadership convention delegates during the party's “super weekend” effectively cut the field from eight hopefuls to four real contenders, and made Mr. Ignatieff the clear front-runner but still far enough from a majority that he can be beaten. If I was paying any attention I might understand a voting system that releases a certain amount of the results before all the results are in or voted upon. Yes, yes - there are the US primaries but those are based on the power of the states to manage their own affairs and the representative representative nature of many of the officials that get voted in. The Grits move smacks more of marketing, stretching out the event.
That being said, I think Iggy is the man. With respect to Mr. Kennedy in particular, does he not scream grade 8 geography teacher. Brown cordoroy jacket, too, screams he. Very nice and honourable I am sure but I have no idea what business he has in proposing himself as leader of the nation. Mr. Rae has woken up in the wrong party so he is no go. I do not know why M. Dion does nothing for me but Mr. Dion does nothing for me.
So I think we will likely have an Iggy. Igyy versus Steve. I do think Steve has done a better job than I expected but the standards have been so low recently that I do not know if I can trust that measurement.

I'm cheering for that final match-up. Not as a Conservative, but as a Canadian.
It'd be a darned fun election to watch.

I was sitting in a pub in Niagara on the Lake this weekend listening to some rotund but talented man play "I Wanna Be Sedated" accoustically when the results rolled in to me via blackberry. I wasa bit dismayed as I am a Kenedy person myself. No, I didn't vote this weekend as being away on our anniversary getaway precluded such (not that I didn't ponder postponing the trip for one weekend for a mere second).
Iggy, well, he is smarter than Harpie. Has a better grasp of BIG WORDS and has an equal temperment.. twill be interesting.

I still think choosing a ex-patriate egghead intellectual is an incredibly risky move for the Libs. Granted, the Harpies (I like that Gorthos, thanks) salivate at the thought of reminding the world of Rae's shortcomings and past mistakes.
I just hope Iggy has the intestinal fortitude to include the Greens in any debates. It's only healthy and it will be fun to watch Elizabeth May claw Harpie's guts out.

Start paying attention to Dion.

I believe David is correct.

Ahh, yes. I had forgot we are expected to do your Googling for you. "Do as I comment not as I blog" sort of thing.

One of the Toronto Liberal Bloggers, a Dion supporter, is saying that Joe Volpe will go to Bob Rae. Wonderful! The prospect of seeing Rae receiving Volpe's embrace (is a kiss or two too much to ask for???), surrounded by Buzz Hargrove, Ujjal Dosanjh and maybe even Dave Haggard, is just too delicious. I may have to break down and watch the Liberal Leadership Non-race convention on TV after all just too see this small, slice of character drama unfold.

That might be funny if it were true, Dr. F. My link is above. P'raps you refer to your blog inscrutibly. Maybe the blog of another from a long long time ago. But that is not the point. The point is you may have had a point but none of us are the wiser unless you make it.

And besides - I still want to know why I should be looking out for with Dion. Not only how does 17% of this segment of the party faithful get him to majority but why? What makes him the leader of the future when I think of him as the equivalent of John Manley?
