So now the wait until February when the first hints of action are heard, then April when the first game is played and, with any luck, May when I see the next Hall of Fame game at Cooperstown and in June, the Watertown Wizards start play again.
The Cards deserved it. Their pitching showed up. Their defence avoided the Tiger's errors. The Card's starter Jeff Weaver was in control the whole night and was my pick for MVP even if he lost game two to cheater pants Rogers.
The New York Times has a great slide show from last night's game, including the above by Jed Jacobsohn of Getty Images - a gorgeous shot that shows both the sea of red and the individual experience of each fan. Which is what it is all about.

I'm glad baseball's over, but I was hoping the Tigers would win. Did you see how cold they all looked? Wasn't good for anybody. Baseball season is simply too long now.

Will we have a new slogan for next season? I enjoyed 'Coco Crisp'. We need a slogan!
Weaver? I dunno. I think Eckstein earned it. He was critical to three of the Cards wins. Caused all kinds of madness in the Tigers infield(poor Inge, that was a great pickup at third). Sure, one of Eck's doubles was totally a result of a soggy field, but the second one was just a great knock. Plus, how can you not root for the teeny-tiny guy?

Now I really miss baseball. I think that NCAA basketball fills the calendar gap exactly. I wonder how obsessed I can get with that now.
