Another in the BBC photo series of how and where people live. I quite like these and now know what I have in common with ry, Gary and the Flea. We are all sooth moothers.
<i>In crofting townships there is a strong emphasis on collective working, kinship and the preservation of culture, heritage and links to the land and sea.</i>
Also arranged marriage, witch burning and heart disease. You've got me with the come-from-away charge though.
Not to mention a wee bit of: <blockquote class="smalltext">"Oy! See you, Jimmah"<br>[head butt] WHAM! <br>[<i>Exeunt</i> loudly]<p>Applause.</blockquote>
OK, I am a bit slow, but I also enjoyed this series of pics. 'sooth moother' describes somebody from somewhere else, yes? Hmmm....well, um, my family's farm is ah, just up the road, not that I feel connected to it, or not much....but this is a new town for me....
I can't say I care for haggis, that much I know, but I am extremely fond of Scotch and even Scotch ale, and I would live on the Shetland's in a second, except I would miss my strange friends.
It's a crofter's life for me. Excepting the bit about the actual crofting. I had in mind more of a retreat from the world complete with helipad, high-speed internet access and comely local wenches. Ahh, yes. The wenches.
Pick any day's tunes as heard on CBC Ottawa's All in a Day hosted by my personal emailing buddy, Brent Bambury. You won't find a better music selection on radio anywhere - certainly not on the deeply dowdy CBC.
From Jan to March 2006, I tried a group humour blog with others on the subject of Canadian politics. It did not last but the posts were worth keeping. #16 was banned. There were no comments. It was at www.shadowcabinet.ca.

'croft' is a slippery term that a non-Scot sorta has a hard time wrapping his not very quick brain around, but I found this of interest
