The picture to the right by Barton Silverman in The New York Times this morning. It captures what is so attractive about Pedro - he is actually a fairly happy open person, as the story attached to it describes:
Part of Martínez’s charm is that he speaks his mind, whether it is calling the Yankees "my daddy" or recounting how he dreamed about pitching in the major leagues while sleeping beneath a mango tree. He has said several times that he hoped he would be healthy enough to fulfill his contract. "It’s going to be a bitter winter because I am going to have to do a lot of work," he said. "The pain I feel was one of the worst I have felt with any injury in my career."When I think of it, Pedro's career has aligned with my interest in specific teams: the Expos, the Red Sox and now your Metropolitans. You know why he is blowing a game, like a Boston home opener a few years back - he knows he doesn't have it. It is all over his face. No anger at others and even perhaps a resignation that you would have wished not to have seen so early in a game. But when he is on, it is amazing.
