The last minute races in the east north country seem to be the race for Jefferson County Sheriff, judging by the amount of TV and radio ad money being spent by Dan Larkin, the Republican challenger. I like his URL of www.nodonuts.org. I'll be tracking that one for the internet tomorrow night. Also, Dan Maffei for US Congress is attracting pro- and anti- ads non stop. I particularly like the subtlety of his web page's link entitled "Walsh Tax Ad Is A Boldfaced Lie". I am having a hard time figuring out where he is running but it includes Onondaga, Monroe, Wayne and Cayuga Counties - which is the 25th Congressional District which is not even in the range of the Watertown TV station I watch. Gary's rigged district, the 23rd 24th, loops far closer at the top of Herkimer County but not a peep in the ads about that race in the final days. The 28th district is the least gerrymandered of all. Of that I am sure.

The 28th looks like it would be the first district to go if Canada were to ever annex a portion of North-Western New York.

Alan, your map is correct, but we are the 24th district. Fingers crossed for Arcuri, baby.......

Oops - do the districts also have names like in Canada? We are Federally, for example, Kingston and the Islands.

Occaisionally one district can be informally named because it forms a neighborhood that is distinct, or named after the person who has held it for so long. Ex: Harlem and the fellow who has held that seat forever, my old Chicago district was referred to as the Lakefront and Evanston, and awhile ago Tip O'Neil's district in Mass. Just nicknames, usually.
