The BBC has an interesting set of photos on a German anarchist living in a squat in London:
Jan does not claim benefits and describes himself as a micro-entrepreneur. "Some anarchists are really radical and don’t want money, but they are on the dole. I say, 'How can you do that when you are supposed to be an anarchist?' But those people are in the minority. "I do this work here, in the squat, because that’s the way it is. I could go for funding but there is so much bureaucracy. I don’t want to get too tied up with liabilities and the state."Anarchism has generally had a bad name since the gunning down of railway strikers in 1877 as well as in Chicago in 1886. They were bringers of chaos and advocates for things like the minimum wage, fair work conditions and votes for women, stuff like that. But Jan is more into silk screening than anything else and reminds me more of that French anarchist chef I read about in the Manchester Guardian weekly around 1980. He was in his '90s and complained as a French anarchist chef might, about the lack of flavour in industrial food. Sadly, I think the article is lost to time and the Internet as the only search result for "french+anarchist+chef" is my own comment here from a year and a half ago. Maybe I made the whole thing up.
