Much as your good self, I have sworn off thinking too much. This allows me to devote more of my limited neurological capacity to scheming up ways of having more money and more sex. Beer not so much due to my slimming regimen but I am all in favour of beer nonetheless. So beer in principle rather than actually existing beer, as a strain of vanguardist socialist might have put it.

Thinking too much always lands me in a bowling alley somewhere.

You could always make your next banjo, Al: http://www.makezine.com/blog/archive/2006/05/hubcap_banjo.html

You could always make your next banjo,

Now that is cool...

I don't think cool includes being asked why the banjo sucks so bad and having to say you made it. You know, Make magazine may well be one of those things people laugh about this decade over, indicative as it is of the great vanity spawned by the interweb.
PS: as evidence I give you this. Remember those other kids' fathers that did this kind of stuff just before or after the divorce? Sort of like the 1979 perm on the 40 year old guy except it is not actually attached to their bodies. Same effect on others, though.

Having said that I did notice some banjo kits at the website for the shop in Old Forge which is fairly reasonable as the banjo is a screwed-together sort of thing full of nuts and bolts. Still, I don't build my own car on the same principle: too much time and a lack of real skill is a playgourn for valid spousal disappointments.
