Hey, I agree: abolish it. The provinces have plenty of power and thus don't need "national" representation at the federal level.

I assume this is a bone thrown to the core supporters.

If you mean this post is a bone thrown to my core support, definitely.

What's that old saying about mixing a spoon full of <strike>dogsh*t</strike> poo with a bucket of icecream: you're still eating <strike>dogsh*t</strike> poo.

I'm with you on this one, Al.

[Ed.: <i>staff were quite shocked as to the usage but as it is an "old saying" considered the above an apporpriate compromise.</i>]

Maybe a more porcine analogy is appropriate when talking about the Senate: putting lipstick on a pig.

So who wants it? What is that segement of society that sees a triple-E senate (elected, eccountable, enormously well funded) as better than the cost of one Yale lock?

WCG -

Actually, I find it odd that an Albertan would want to get rid of the Senate, since it ensures that each province has a place where it has a voice that was a strong as the other provinces, so that there could be no "tyrrany of the majority" from the House - specifically I mean Ontario here. And the provinces wouldn't have as much power of the PMO didn't keep giving it away willy-nilly.
