Do you want to talk about the Senate? I don't really want to talk about the Senate. But we may end up talking about the Senate soon. I am all for abolishing the thing myself. Any move to give it more power is a move away from popular representative democracy to something like a council of elders. Why bother?
And why open up a constitutional debate? I'd rather go through testing for matters of prostate - which I have by the way and which you all should have. You all do not need a council of elders but you all should have a reasonable sense of the state of your nether regions. Say it. Your bum. There. Said it. That is clear enough.

Hey, I agree: abolish it. The provinces have plenty of power and thus don't need "national" representation at the federal level.
I assume this is a bone thrown to the core supporters.

If you mean this post is a bone thrown to my core support, definitely.

What's that old saying about mixing a spoon full of <strike>dogsh*t</strike> poo with a bucket of icecream: you're still eating <strike>dogsh*t</strike> poo.
I'm with you on this one, Al.
[Ed.: <i>staff were quite shocked as to the usage but as it is an "old saying" considered the above an apporpriate compromise.</i>]

Maybe a more porcine analogy is appropriate when talking about the Senate: putting lipstick on a pig.

So who wants it? What is that segement of society that sees a triple-E senate (elected, eccountable, enormously well funded) as better than the cost of one Yale lock?

Actually, I find it odd that an Albertan would want to get rid of the Senate, since it ensures that each province has a place where it has a voice that was a strong as the other provinces, so that there could be no "tyrrany of the majority" from the House - specifically I mean Ontario here. And the provinces wouldn't have as much power of the PMO didn't keep giving it away willy-nilly.
