Due to a compact lifestyle for now, we had a great view of a fifteen minute show by the Canadian Forces's Snowbird flying team last night. High neato factor and interesting, being about 5 km away from the centre of the show to watch the regrouping and hiding of jets above clouds.

It has been about 200 years since Canada and US have been at war, right? I feel like A) the Taiwanese, when the Chinese do bombing exercises just off their shoreline AND B) wasn't it the South Park movie where the Canadian forces massed at the border and came across, because Canada hates our freedom?
Maybe the South Park movie was prophetic, and the Minutemen should move to the NY-Canada border! We're shaking in our boots here, be merciful please.....
On another note: Portland is pretty funny when he gets excited, maybe he should write more comments?

Merely an exercise, Gary. Just a practice run, is all. Nothing to concern yourself with. Really ...
Actually, I believe there is some 1738 treaty that stated Nova Scotia would come to New Hampshire's aid if it were ever invaded by Upper Canada*, so we've got your back, or flank anyway. There are at least a few jets-on-sticks around that could be quickly retro-fitted, I'm sure. If we can't uphold centuries old treaties, what have we left?
* yes I made that up, so don't Google it

Brings up that old question--if Canada did invade, would anybody notice or care? As long as you don't force your weapons of mass destruction on us: Celine Dion, Labatts Blue (uck), heart-stopping sales tax.

Hey, big congrats on the little Campbell, Mike!

There were certainly moments at the southern arc of the snowbird's program when they were very much at the edge of the Wolfe Island zone. We were wondering if they had US arispace access.

It's too late, gr, I saw a Labatt's Blue commercial on NBC last night.

It is true, Celine Dion and Labatts are all over NY state. You people will have us on ours knees in no time.....

We had a front-row seats beside the Marine Museum for the whole thing; it was great. I've never seen teh birds that low before. At one point, 5 of the nine came roaring over us from the shore side at no more than 200 feet. Simpy amazing. Lots of fun to see them coming a split-second before the noise hits and not having enough time to warn the 8-year-old ... LOL
I was watching them andwould guess they were grazing the American side at most. The Yanks are actually farther away that we think. :-) Of course, not so far away that we can't see their occaisional F-16 patrolling the border when we're at the cottage.

Thanks Gary!

Heh. My nephew, being raised in a US Navy family and in the shadows of Seal Beach NWS, by a father who makes the pilgrimage to USNAS Miramar every summer, is a big fan of the Snow Birds. He prefers them to the Blue Angels. Forces my brother to buy every single video by the demo team that the two of them come across. Drives Mitch crazy.
If I have to watch another one of their demonstrations I think I'll cry maple syrup though.

One of these days I'd like to go to San Francisco for the big air show.

One...two...three...'for he's a jolly good fellow...' etc. for Mike Campbell, little baby, and esp. for the new mom who probably did most of the heavy lifting.
(sure I am a month late, but...)
