I saw David Wells get the line drive off his bad knee last night, during his comback game after surgery, and it was one of those things that just made you feel kinda sick. It reminded me of Dougie Gilmour's return to Toronto only to suffer a career ending injury in the first game. I have always like Wells a lot and not only because he was born when I was and is built pretty much like I am. His 15 wins last year were the key to the Sox getting into the post-season on a pretty off year.
In other new, it was good to see Foulke at least freak out in the dugout after being pulled from a pretty awful performance. Whatever the guys said to him from the seats right behind the bench...he was right.

Everybody always complains about the huge salaries that sports stars get, but we tend to forget that their careers are 1/4 the length of ours - by the time most of them are in their late 40s, they're crippled in one way or another and can't do their jobs anymore. Then what are they supposed to do? Live in their savings, I guess. It's pretty scary, actually... at least I'll still be able to write when I'm 70: some of these guys won't even be able to walk.
