Thank you for giving me a tax increase and clawblack to look forward to for the second half of 2006:
The tax hike in July could be even bigger if the Tories go ahead with plans to scrap the income tax break for the entire 2006 calendar year, as they said during the election. Current payroll deductions have been collecting tax at the new rate of 15 per cent for the lowest bracket since the year began. That's because the Liberals signalled tax collectors to enact the change last November, even though no legislation was introduced to formalize their proposal. Canada Revenue Agency would have to clawback extra tax in the second half of 2006 to make up for what wasn't collected in the first six months.Thank you for dropping the taxes to 15% without introducing legislation to make it law, tremulous 'fraidy-cat Liberals. Thank you Revenue Canada for having a tradition for accepting drops in taxes without the actual introduction of legislation making it law. Thank you new CPC overlords who are so convinced in their new economic social re-engineering project that they may not introduce changes in taxation without considering the retroactive effect where we pay the clawback without gaining the allegedly off-setting and in fact more valuable GST cut. Thank you all.

The announced 15.5% as of 1 July is a decent compromise:
The Liberal plan had proposed cutting the lowest personal income tax rate to 15 per cent from 16 per cent. The Conservatives said they would maintain a reduced tax of 15.5 per cent for that bracket effective July 1. From Jan. 1, 2005, to June 30, 2006, the 15-per-cent rate would still apply.
