Cyn has pointed us all to the story of the century, the harbinger of the slavery to robots to come - scientists say that we will grow our own meat someday soon:
Scientists are trying to develop an industrial process that grows meat tissue from a few cells in a lab – or even at home, in a device like a bread maker. Instead of being cut from a farm animal, the beef, pork or chicken would be grown in incubators from a few starter cells, a growth medium and some hormones to get the cells to divide. The first attempts by scientists who grow animal muscle tissue in the lab have been small in scale. But researchers are looking forward to the day when meat could be cultivated in industrial bioreactors or even in a device sitting on a kitchen counter.Excellent. I need a device like that. The more devices the better. But can this good news be trusted? I am a little concerned that Jason Matheny, illustrated above and the source for this news according to the CBC, has all the appearances of a junior mad scientist with a gold badge in evil deed planning. It's that Marvel cartoon hair as much as the scowly speaking through the eyebrows look. Note also he is a "researcher". No doubt angry at old Prof. McGibbons who is holding back the project by insisting it goes through the ethics committee. This news actually broke last July when Jason published a paper with the promise of cow-free beef. But it is only now that I have come to the full realization that there is a magazine called Tissue Engineering. Robots will be pleased.

You mean it isn't now grown in a Petrie dish? It sure tastes like it is.

So long as that home bread-maker type device has a 'maple-smoked' option, I'm in.

Ahh, but will you be able to grow Hufu?

I plan to use my bioreactor to grow brain tissue. Mmm. Brain tissue.

Knowing my luck, the device I get will be set to "beak" only.
