It is sad but even on the 23rd of July there are signs of the end of the summer and today was one of them - the last weekend home game for the Watertown Wizards. It was a 2-1 loss to the Rochester Royals but a pretty good game at under 2 hours. The first six innings were a blur of a pitcher's duel with a lot of first pitch ground outs making for some fairly snappy innings. The star was Rochester pitcher Dylan Rees.
Rees allowed just one Watertown hit through the first seven innings and forced the Wizards to leave five runners on the bases. Twice, Rees stranded the game-tying run on third base. Helmick batted in single runs for Rochester in the first and sixth innings off Wizards starting pitcher Bobby Carrington (Northeastern). Carrington took the hard-luck loss. He hurled a five-hitter over eight-and-two-thirds innings and surrendered two runs on five walks with three strikeouts. Carrington and Rees combined to force 32 groundouts. Here is the full game report. We did not get the 50-50 draw this time but there were inflatable baseball/beachballs for all, suckers handed out to anyone that wanted one and a keg of Yuengling (a portion of which is illustrated above) instead of Genny Light on tap, another beer-flavoured water of great use when it is over 90 F.

Mint choco-chip from a good convenience store on Coffeen Street, right across from Fair Grounds. The brand began with "B"...Bryant? Saw the same brand advertised at Freds on 12E north of Brownsville, NY.

But can the illusion that is the internet provide you with a list of New York state ice cream brands? Not a chance.

Re: summer moving along: You know, August 1 is coming up and August is a fantastic month, but it is followed by September, and the long, slippery, snowy slope that is the rest of the year. But at least the cold months have football and hockey.
