This from the BBC is interesting:
More than 95% of e-mail is junk, be it spam, error messages or viruses, report mail monitoring firms. Analysis of the contents of millions of e-mails has revealed that less than 4% is legitimate traffic. Further work has shown that most of this junk mail is originating on hijacked home computers. So what is the percentage of the global internet infrastructure that is dedicated to the delivery of this stuff? This is amazing: "The vast majority of the 170,000 net addresses sending e-mail from Polish Telecom were probably zombies." What is the economic model behind such statistics?
On a related note, it is something of an education to see the drop in visits coinciding with efforts to cut spam around here. There really are only three of you reading this thing.

I think the echoing sound you hear back after shouting "hello, hello is anyone there" into cyberspace is "<i>viagara...rolex...cheap stock deal..."</i>

Who knew there were that many zombies in Poland?

Heck, the secrets out. cm, Hans and Mike are obviously the 3 REAL people, therefore I am:
a) a zombie b) a robot or c) a flake.
I am hoping it is c, becuase that at least leaves the possibility that I can be real one day, if I drink enough coffee.
I am relieved to find that many of the loopy opinons written in this blog are simply zombies letting off steam. In portlands case, that explains a lot.
Gordo - July 27, 2006 10:05 am
I definitely qualify as both a & c on most days.
