Ah, the dog days of summer. The no news days and blogging stat drop days. Time to bake up a great poll like CalgaryGrit has. Vote daily here. I am packing the ballot box with everything from Red Tories to venerable socialists. I suppose some of you are now going to neutralize my franchise with your mistaken views freely express yourself, too.

I'm trying to get Nellie McClung and Stockwell Day in.
McClung because she kicked some serious ass in her time, and Stock because I have fantasies of him winning, and leftist heads exploding like fireworks.

Sort of a Don Cherry for Greatest Canadian, eh? Excellent. Why no-non politicians? Bethune for example. That might have some right-wing temples throbbing I suppose.

I am a little more sanguine about Bethune the man (who did after all, contribute some objectively worthwhile things to science and medicine) than I am about Bethune the demi-god as portrayed by Donald Sutherland. I can forgive a man for being a misguided Commie, but he really ought to have risen from the grave and throttled the actor responsible for not one but two ponderous, ham-fisted attempts at hagiography.
My vote goes to the guy who played The Friendly Giant, Robert Homme. Anybody that suffers through playing the recorder in Grave 7 but manages to parlay it into a life-long and career-building skill is okay in my books.

In a unique twist, it could be argued that Paul Martin was the best Prime Minister we never had...
...although for non-politicians, I'd like to see Paul Henderson or Larry Walker. They both seem exceedingly honourable. Of course, I have no idea what their political views are.

Left wing and left field?

Left judgemented? What was supposed to be the inaugural, and wound up being the inly, Paul Henderson's Winning Goal restaurant was located here in Kingston around about 1990.
I'll second the nomination for Robert Homme. If being born an American doesn't rule one out, I'd nominate Ernie Coombs for Deputy PM.

Argh ... replace "inly" with "only"

Robert Gordon Orr. But I'm cool with the Friendly Giant/Mister Dressup ticket. Rusty for Foreign Minister. Jerome for Minister of Defence. Aligator Al for Environment Minister. Anyway, I think it would be cool to have a draw-bridge at the entrance of the Parliament buildings.
No no, what am I saying? Bobby Orr!

And a chair in the corner of the press gallery for someone to curl up on...
