Nothing like waking up a little later than ususal on a holiday in lieu. See, Canada Day was a Saturday so now something between 37% and 68% of Canadians get Monday off. What better conditions for a nutbar of an idea to be floated in the news so that we can all sit around on lawn chaise-lounges thinking how dumb it is:
Al-Qaida leaders sold out Abu Musab al-Zarqawi to the United States in exchange for a promise to let up in the search for Osama bin Laden, the slain militant's wife claimed in an interview with an Italian newspaper. The woman, identified by La Repubblica as Mr. al-Zarqawi's first wife, said al-Qaeda's top leadership reached a deal with U.S. intelligence because Mr. al-Zarqawi had become too powerful. She claimed Sunni tribes and Jordanian secret services mediated the deal. That is a gem and worthy of the finest that the blogosphere itself might offer. No word of she is first and matriarch of seven or whether she is related through a bad patch in his teens, now living in a modular home in a less fortunate regional centre. Slow news day.

Yeah, there's someone running around with that meme down here too.
ANd yet, if true, shows how transient alliances in the ME can be. One day you've got the Syrians, Iraqis and Iranians talking about banding together to go whomp upside the head of Saudi; and the next you've got Syrian agents tryig to assasinate SH and SH launching an invasion of Iran. It's all about goals.
