Not being Catholic but being a fellow traveller, the workings of the Vatican fascinate. To that end - and for your improvement as always - I give your Benny's first encyclical which appears to be on the interrelated obligations of the faithful and the state.

The amount of influence that a wizened old white man in Rome has on the people of the world amazes and horrifies me. My wife and her family are Catholic and standing amongst a congregation of them gesticulating in unison still gives me the creeps after 15 years.
Benny needs to worry less about "loveless sex" and what his bishops are teaching people in AIDS stricken countries.

Come back in two weeks, SN.

I'm confused. Am I being banned?
SayNay? - January 25, 2006 6:59 PM
Nice to...

Not, SN, you are in the penalty box for repeat offending, for your racist implication since deleted and failing to appreciating that Gord was describing his own family experience not one of your two-dimensional characterizations.

Repent, do your time or leave for ever.

Ah, Sorry about that.
I just noticed that I somehow managed to paste the wrong link in my first comment. It should go this Guardian article.

who would read that?

I would, and even for being a life long RC, it's a bit of a slog. Your time limit was waaaaay too short, Alan. Can you keep this comments section open a while so I can read and digest it?
Oh, and I do find the NYT presentation to be rather vapid---have they ever read one of these before, or attended Mass, or gone thru the pre-marriage counciling the Church gives? Crimminey, they act like Benny went way out on a limb when all he's done is go over old ground.

Comments are always open, ry, and will show to the upper right unless I have hidden a thread with soft spammery which I can't be bothered deleting or highlighting. You take your time as I would enjoy your view.
BTW, "crimminey" is the new word for 2006.
