What is wrong with inordinately large bells?

The trouble with Christmas on a Monday is that there is two extra days of lead up. Traditionally, the 22nd is nothing but day for pagans to think about what might have been for the winter solstice. But tonight on the local PBS we have bell ringer repeats instead of UK crime drama repeats - comfort, comfort in the knowledge that I knew who did it and they did indeed do it - which is bad enough except for the unfeasibly large bells in the bass section of the bell ringers. They are beyond bigger than their heads - they are bigger than their torsos. Freakish.
